Local man facing charges after attempted break-and-enters

28-year-old allegedly tried to break into numerous rooms in commercial building on Veteran's Way in Elliot Lake twice between Dec. 5 and 6, police say

On Dec. 6, 2022, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a person in relation to a break-and-enter at a commercial building on Veteran's Way in Elliot Lake.   

In the early morning of Dec. 5, 2022, police were notified a person in the building was unlawfully attempting to enter numerous rooms. The security camera footage was reviewed, and the male suspect was identified. Police patrolled the area but could not locate the person. On the morning of Dec. 6, 2022, police were called in relation to the same person in the building attempting to enter the rooms again. The person was located and arrested.   

Cody Everton, 28, of Elliot Lake, was charged with:

  • Break, enter a place - with intent to commit indictable offence (two counts), contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Fail to comply with probation order (two counts), contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste Marie on Dec. 8, 2022.
