Little Current driver facing impaired, licence suspension charges

The driver was charged after a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act violation

The Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in Assiginack Township, which led to the arrest of the driver.

On March 28, 2024, shortly after 11 p.m., the Manitoulin OPP was conducting general patrol on Highway 6 in Assiginack Township. Police conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

Upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine that the driver had a suspended licence and had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Patrick Shean, 40 years old, from Little Current has been charged with:

  • driving while under suspension - two counts
  • drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • fail to surrender insurance card
  • operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on May 7, 2024.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
