Impaired charge laid in Spanish

Police observed the vehicle swerve while making a turn, at which point a traffic stop was conducted

SPANISH - On July 7, 2019 a member with the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on general patrol in the Town of Spanish. At approximately 3:33 a.m., the officer observed a vehicle turn left onto Trunk Road. The vehicle swerved while making the turn at which point a traffic stop was conducted. Police spoke with the driver and determined that he had consumed alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, Philip McLeod, a 24-year-old from Spanish, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the (CC)

The accused was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, Ontario on Aug. 1, 2019.

The OPP reminds motorists that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver that is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
