With milder weather comes icebreaking season.

East Algoma OPP has advised that the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Griffon will be breaking ice on Lake Huron. Starting in Midland Harbour today, the ship will move to the North Channel tonight before breaking ice in Fisher Harbour and Lafarge at Manitoulin Island on Thursday, and at Bruce Mines and Thessalon on Friday.

OPP recommend all recreational users of the ice to leave the ice during operations. OPP say ice may move and extreme caution should be used after operations are complete since the ice may remain unstable.

OPP remind that the date is subject to change with no notice, as activities could begin before or after that period, depending on operational requirements or weather conditions.
