A traffic stop for speeding earlier this month has led to multiple charges for a driver from Blind River.

On Sept. 2, officers with the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police stopped a pickup truck on Highway 17 in Serpent River while on general patrol.

The vehicle, police say, was stopped for speeding.

Police also say that, after the officers stopped the vehicle, they could smell alcohol on the breath of the driver.

A field sobriety test was administered and with the driver and open alcohol was found in the vehicle, according to police.

As a result of the investigation, Perry Marinoff, 61, of Blind River, has been charged with:

  • operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • speeding 1 - 49 km/h over posted limit

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Oct. 5, 2023.
