A lockdown at a local high school this morning appears to be a false alarm.

In a news release, the East Algoma OPP said there appears to have been "a technical issue with the panic alarm initiation" at the school on Mississauga Avenue.

Police said they were called in relation to a lockdown alarm at approximately 11 a.m.

The lockdown ensued and school protocol was followed, police said in a news release.

Police attended to clear the school and ensure the safety of students and staff.

After investigation, it was determined the technical issue was to blame.

The school and alarm company are currently looking into the cause and remediation, police said.

Police thanked students, staff, and parents for their cooperation.
