BLIND RIVER - March is Fraud Prevention Month and the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to remind everyone the importance of being vigilant when it comes to protecting your identity, your possessions, and your money.

The East Algoma OPP and Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) will be hosting a fraud seminar on March 9, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Blind River Community Centre (110 Indiana St.) and want to invite local seniors/elders to this free presentation.

Fraud Prevention Month is about communities working together to create greater awareness and to highlight the various ways that all Canadians are being targeted by fraud.

"Awareness is key when it comes to recognizing frauds and scams. There are so many types out there but the better educated the public is, the less chance you have to fall victim to these ruthless scammers," says Community Safety Officer Bev Gauthier.

If you do suspect you have been a victim of a fraud, contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122. For more information on how you can protect yourself from fraudulent activities, please visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) website or by telephone at 1-888-495-8501.
