Espanola resident caught stealing package from neighbour's porch: OPP

The 30-year-old faces multiple charges as a result

ESPANOLA — On April 18, 2022 at approximately 3:56 p.m. the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft in progress from a residence on Barber Street in Espanola.

The complainant reported observing an individual take a package from the porch of their neighbour's home. The individual left on foot from the residence with the package. Officers were able to locate the individual matching the description and subsequently arrested them.

Jessica Remillard, 30-years-old from Espanola was charged with:

  • Theft Under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Other Drugs, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (Other Than Heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance - Other Drugs, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on June 6, 2022.
