Espanola man faces theft, weapons charged in Pointe Au Baril investigation

ARCHIPELAGO TOWNSHIP - On Nov. 28, 2021 at approximately 12:45 a.m., members of the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assisted by members of the Anishinabek Police Service (APS) responded to a break and enter in progress at a residence on South Shore Road, Pointe Au Baril, in Archipelago Township.

Further investigation revealed that the residence had been entered, keys taken and a pickup truck stolen. With the assistance of tracking device, OPP and APS officers located the vehicle on Highway 69 south of Point Au Baril. After speaking with the driver officers concluded alcohol had been consumed.

Jason Iverson, 40 years of age from Espanola, Ont., was arrested and charged with:
    •    break and enter dwelling house, contrary to Section 348(1)(b) Criminal Code (CC)
    •    theft over $5,000, contrary to Section 334(a) CC
    •    theft under $5,000, contrary to Section 334(b) CC
    •    possession of break in instruments, contrary to Section 351(1) CC
    •    possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to Section 354(1)(a) CC
    •    possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to Section 354(1)(a) CC (five counts)
    •    possession of firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime knowing its possession is unauthorized, contrary to Section 92(2) CC
    •    mischief under $5,000, contrary to Section 430(4) CC
    •    failure or refusal to comply with demand, contrary to Section 320.15(1) CC
    •    fail to comply with a probation order, contrary to Section 733.1(1) CC

The accused remains in custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on Dec/ 16, 2021.
