Espanola driver faces impaired charges following RIDE check in Sables-Spanish Rivers

SABLES-SPANISH RIVERS TOWNSHIP — On April 15, 2022, the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint on Burns Crossover Road and Lee Valley Road in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., a vehicle entered the checkpoint. After speaking with the driver, officers determined the driver had consumed alcohol. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered that resulted in a fail and the driver was subsequently arrested.

Danny Campbell, 64 years old from Espanola, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - Alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - Blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on May 16, 2022.
