Espanola area resident faces numerous child pornography related charges

investigation began in May after OPP received reports of indecent images posted to social media

ESPANOLA - On May 8, 2020, members from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) entered into an investigation of reported indecent images on social media by a resident in Espanola.

Officers conducted a comprehensive investigation with the assistance of the Manitoulin OPP Crime Unit and with the North East Region Crime Unit.

As a result, Cooper Petrock-MacDonnell, 22 years old of Nairn-Hyman Township, was arrested and charged with:
    •    Invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age, contrary to section 152 of the Criminal Code (CC);
    •    Makes, prints, publishes or possession for the purpose of publication any child pornography, contrary to section 163.1(2) of the CC;
    •    Imports, distributes, sells or possession for the purpose of distribution or sale any child pornography, contrary to section 163.1(3) of the CC;
    •    Possession of child pornography, (two counts), contrary to section 163.1(4) of the CC;
    •    Make sexually explicit material available to a person under 16 years of age, contrary to section 171.1(1)(b) of the CC; and
    •    Luring a person under 16 years of age by means of telecommunication, contrary to section 172.1(1)(b) of the CC.

The accused has been remanded into custody pending a bail hearing.
