Erratic driving leads to impaired charge near Little Current

CURTIN TOWNSHIP — On Dec. 2, 2021 at approximately 4:20 p.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to several traffic complainants regarding a motor vehicle on Highway 6.

Complainants reported the vehicle was driving all over the road, crossing the centre and there was a concern for the safety of all road users. The car stopped on the highway near Whitefish Falls Road. Officers arrived and spoke with the driver and it was determined they were impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the Little Current Detachment for further testing.

Lynn Heipel, 66-years-old from Cambridge, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Jan. 10, 2022.
