Erratic driver charged with impaired

Police smelled alcohol on the driver's breath at a traffic stop

On May 2, 2019 at 12:26 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police members were conducting general patrol on Hillside Drive South near Highway 108 in the City of Elliot Lake, Ont.

Police observed a small red car operating in an erratic manner and conducted a subsequent traffic stop. Upon speaking to the male driver, a strong odour of alcohol was detected emanating from his breath. As a result, the male was arrested, driver's license suspended, and the vehicle was towed and impounded.

Glen Janes, 45 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ont. was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ont. on June 4, 2019.
