Elliot Lake woman accused of threatening cab driver

On May 20, 2021 shortly after 4 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a dispute at the Hillside Plaza parking lot in the City of Elliot Lake.

Investigation determined a Union Taxi driver picked up a customer at a residence on Poplar Road and provided a ride to the local hospital which was a fare of over $18. The customer then required a ride to a local pharmacy and would pay the full fare at that time. Once the taxi reached that destination, [it is alleged that] the customer refused to pay, became agitated and threaten to harm the driver.

As a result of the investigation, Tammy Bowerman, 34 years of age from Elliot Lake, was arrested and charged with:
    •    Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    Transportation fraud, contrary to section 393(3) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on July 6, 2021.
