On Sept. 21, 2023, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a person in relation to numerous on-going breach related calls in Elliot Lake.
The complainants reported that a male was working as a contractor in town and was not supposed to be around children. These complaints were such that the male was working at homes where children were present and as a result of prior charges, he was on conditions not to.
On Sept. 21, 2023, police arrested James Wickenden (Jay Sloychuk), 40 years old from Elliot Lake, was charged with:
• Voyeurism
• Fail to comply with Prohibition regarding children (three counts)
As a continuation of this investigation James Wickenden (Jay Sloychuk) was re-arrested on Oct. 4, 2023, while in custody for the following 22 offences:
• Adult fail to comply with prohibition regarding children (eight counts)
• Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age (seven counts)
• Sexual interference (seven counts)
The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie on Oct. 5, 2023, and was again remanded into custody.
