Elliot Lake man faces drug charges after SUV mounts guardrail

Charges include careless driving, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking

A single-vehicle collision on Highway 17 has led to an arrest and drug charges in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.

On March 2, at approximately 1:15 p.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a complaint of an SUV that had crossed over the opposing lane, collided with, and then became perched on a guardrail.

As a result of the investigation, police seized approximately 130 grams of suspected cocaine as well as approximately $3,550 in Canadian currency.

Thomas Joseph Pidgeon, 52, from Elliot Lake was arrested and charged with:

  • Careless driving
  • Possession of cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Operate unsafe vehicle

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on May 15.
