Elliot Lake man, 27, accused of breaking into garage, stealing chainsaw

Accused faces theft, break and enter, and possession of stolen property charges

On April 11, 2020 at approximately 9 p.m. members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a theft related occurrence on Ottawa Avenue in Elliot Lake.   

The complainant reported a person on foot had just entered their garage and stole a chainsaw. A description of the accused was provided to police. Police searched the area with negative results.         

On April 13, 2020 after police investigation, the accused was subsequently located, arrested, and charged.   

Lee Martin, 27 years of age, of Elliot Lake was charged with:    

  • Theft under $5,000 - shoplifting, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),  
  • Break, enter dwelling house - commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the CC,  
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 355(b) of the CC.  

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on April 14, 2020.
