Driver in Johnson Township busted with two pounds of cocaine: OPP

A 36-year-old from Barrie is facing multiple charges as a result

An evening traffic stop in Johnson Township led to a number of charges against a Barrie, Ont. resident and the seizure of two pounds of suspected cocaine.

Shortly before 7 p.m. on Saturday, the Ontario Provincial Police stopped a vehicle on Highway 17 that they say was passing unsafely near the crest of a hill.

Police say the driver had an unsealed container of cannabis within reach and, as police began to search the vehicle, the driver had "a medical episode." The driver was taken to hospital in Thessalon before being released into police custody.

Police say they found two pounds of suspected cocaine in the vehicle with an estimated street value of $75,000.

Salar Nowbari, 36, of Barrie is charged with:

  • possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-cocaine
  • possession of schedule I substance - cocaine
  • drive left of centre - approaching crest of grade
  • drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
  • fail to surrender licence

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
