On Nov. 16, 2021, at approximately 9:10 a.m. members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of firearm related occurrence on Highway 17, North Shore Township.
The complainant reported that a friend had stolen their car and was on the way to Sault Ste. Marie from Spanish. The person had also made threats to kill people and harm them self with a firearm in their possession. Police quickly located the vehicle on Highway 17, travelling westbound. The driver refused to stop for police multiple times. Eventually, a spikebelt was utilized, which was effective in immobilizing the vehicle in a safe manner. The driver was subsequently arrested and charged.
Susan Allarie, 51 years old, of Spanish was charged with:
- Dangerous operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code (CC)
- Flight from peace officer, contrary to section 320.17 of the CC
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC
- Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC
- Take motor vehicle without consent, contrary to section 335(1) of the CC
- Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on Nov. 17, 2021.
