ESPANOLA - On Jan. 14, 2023 at approximately 1:20 p.m., members of the Manitoulin (Espanola) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting general law enforcement duties in the Town of Espanola. Police conducted a traffic stop on Spruce Avenue after observing a red vehicle pull out of a parking lot in front of oncoming traffic.
Upon speaking with the driver, it was determined the driver had consumed alcohol and was subsequently arrested.
As a result of the investigation, Briana-Jan Eshkakogan, 24 years old from Sables-Spanish Rivers Township, was charged with:
• Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) CC
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Feb. 13, 2023.
