Driver facing impaired charges after traffic complaint

Police say the 47-year-old was stopped by police officers after they received a traffic complaint on Highway 6 in Espanola; the investigation revealed the driver consumed alcohol

On Sept. 30, 2022, at approximately 12 p.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 6 in Espanola.

Police stopped the vehicle a short time later on Highway 6 at Highway 17. It was determined the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. They were subsequently arrested and returned to detachment for further tests.

Peter Ryan Tanguay, 47, from Chelmsford was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC
  • Driver commercial motor vehicle - no licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Nov. 21, 2022.
