Driver faces several charges after traffic stop near Espanola

The charges include impaired driving, speeding and refusal to comply

A Sault Ste. Marie man is facing several charges after an incident on Highway 17 in the Nairn-Hyman Township, near Espanola.

The Manitoulin detachment of the OPP responded to a report of a vehicle seemingly unable to maintain which lane it was in travelling at varying speed.

During the ensuing traffic stop, officers determined the driver was intoxicated and an arrest was made.

Keith Nardi, a 45-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand, contrary to section 320.15(1) of the CC
  • Speeding 1-49 km/h over posted limit, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Driver fail to surrender licence, contrary to section 33(1) of the HTA
  • Disobey sign, contrary to section 182(2) of the HTA
  • Possess unmarked cigarettes, contrary to section 29(2) of the Tobacco Tax Act

He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on July 4, 2022.
