Driver charged with impaired after traffic complaint in Blind River

BLIND RIVER - On June 26, 2021, shortly after 11:45 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver that had left a residence in Elliot Lake and was travelling to Blind River.

On June 27, 2021 at approximately 12:30 a.m., police located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Highway 17 and Frampet Drive, east of the Town of Blind River. While speaking to the driver police determined alcohol had been consumed.

As a result, Owen Roberts, 18 years-of-age from Blind River was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Aug. 5, 2021.   

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
