Driver charged as vehicle unable to stay in lane on Highway 17

Reports of a vehicle that was unable to stay in its lane on Sunday have resulted in charges for a Little Current resident.

The Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police said they received a traffic complaint at about 1:30 p.m. on April 9 regarding a vehicle that was unable to maintain its lane on Highway 17.

Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

Upon speaking with the driver, police observed signs of impairment and the driver was subsequently arrested, the OPP said in a news release.

As a result, Christopher Heise, 43, of Little Current was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operating an unsafe vehicle
  • Possessing more than one licence

The accused's vehicle was impounded for seven days and their driver's licence was suspended for 90 days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on May 15.
