On Jan. 27, 2021 at approximately 2:30 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were called to a vehicle in the ditch on Manitoba Road and Brunswick Walk.
Witnesses reported a vehicle travelling on Hillside Drive South at a high rate of speed, and not abiding by traffic signals or signage. The vehicle continued through a downtown parking lot but eventually came to rest when it crashed into a ditch at Manitoba Road and Brunswick Walk.
Rene Dessingy, 86 years of age from Elliot Lake, was charged with:
• Careless driving, contrary to section 130(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
