TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE - On Jan. 20, 2022 shortly after 1 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of Mississauga First Nation Police Service and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) responded to traffic complaints that began on Highway 17 west of the Town of Blind River involving westbound pickup truck that was crossing the centre line and pulled over to turn around and continued eastbound on Highway 17.
At approximately 1:45 p.m., OPP received another traffic complaint involving the same eastbound pickup truck that almost hit a car on Highway 17 and a short time later turned onto Highway 108 and travelled northbound. The pickup truck was observed crossing the centre line, driving in the oncoming lane and almost went in the ditch on the wrong side of the road. The pickup truck then turned around and now was travelling southbound on Highway 108.
At approximately 2 p.m., a traffic stop involving the same pickup truck was conducted by members of the MTO on Village Road in the community of Serpent River First Nation. OPP conducted a query and revealed the driver was also wanted by OPP for failing to attend court in the City of Elliot Lake on Sept. 2, 2021.
As a result, Edwin Chiblow, 62 years of age from Mississauga First Nation, was charged with:
• dangerous operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code (CC)
• failure to attend court after having appeared, contrary to section 145(2)(b) of the CC
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on March 3, 2022.
