Police say a driver was arrested after refusing to provide a breath sample after leaving a local bar.

On Thursday at around 11 p.m., the East Algoma OPP said they were on general patrol when they stopped a vehicle to check the driver's sobriety after the driver left a bar on Philip Walk in Elliot Lake.

Police stopped the white pickup and spoke to the driver.

"The driver was provided plenty of opportunity to provide a sample of breath but refused to do so," the OPP said in a news release.

"The uncooperative driver was arrested and the pickup truck was subsequently towed and impounded."

Raymond Carriere, 70, of Elliot Lake was charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand.

Carriere is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on June 13.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Carriere is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
