Domestic disturbance leads to assault charge in Spragge

TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE - On Aug. 7, 2021 shortly after 7:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Highway 17 in the Village of Spragge within the Township of the North Shore.

Investigation determined one of the spouses in recent weeks [allegedly] was physically assaulted, threatened to damage property and had smashed a cell phone.

As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old from the Township of the North Shore was charged with:
    •    assault - spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    utter threats - damage property, contrary to section 264.1(1)(b) of the CC
    •    mischief - domestic, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC (two counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Sept. 2, 2021.
