Domestic disturbance call leads to assault, weapons charges in Blind River

BLIND RIVER - On Aug. 4, 2021 at approximately 10 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to domestic disturbance at an apartment complex on West Street in the Town of Blind River.

Investigation determined an argument had taken place in a hallway between a common-law-couple that [is alleged to have] ensued into a physical altercation. Police located the accused and the victim who was hiding in the apartment.

As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old from Blind River was charged with:
    •    assault - spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    possession of firearm or ammunition, contrary to section 117.01(1) of the CC (four counts)
    •    failure to comply with undertaking, contrary to section 145(4)(a) of the CC

The accused appeared before the before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on Aug. 5, 2021 and was remanded into custody.
