The East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police say that on May 20 they arrested a suspect in relation to previously reported disturbances at a residence on Village Crescent in Serpent River First Nation.

Police say on April 23 they were called to a family dispute at a residence. An unwelcome family member was intoxicated by drugs causing damage to property, according to the complaint.

Police attended but the person had already left on foot, police said in a news release.

Patrols were made without finding the suspect and later an arrest warrant was issued, according to police.

On May 10, police were again called to the residence regarding a disturbance. An intoxicated family member kicked in the door, later damaged a vehicle, and then threatened and assaulted another family member, police said.

Police say Zachary Pelletier, 27, of Serpent River First Nation is charged with:

  • Assault
  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm
  • Mischief under $5000 (two counts)
  • Break and enter - commit indictable offence

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on June 1.
