Disturbance call leads to assault charges for local woman

On Dec. 31, 2017, at approximately 4:47 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance call at an apartment complex on Mississauga Avenue in the City of Elliot Lake. 

The complainant had reported a female banging on the owner's door demanding to be let in. Police located the female passed out in the hallway and was subsequently arrested due to her level of intoxication. The female assaulted officers and was found to be in contravention of her probation order.

Paulina Mews, 40 years of age of Elliot Lake, Ont., was charged with:

  • Assault with intent to resist arrest, contrary to section 270(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • Assault a peace officer, contrary to section 270(1)(a) of the CC, and
  • Resist peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC, and
  • Obstruct peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC, and
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC, and
  • Being intoxicated in a common area, contrary to section 31(4) of the Liquor License Act (LLA).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Feb. 6, 2018.
