Cyclist riding in the dark found to be wanted on drug charges

ESPANOLA – On May 7, 2020, shortly before 2:30 a.m. members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a cyclist with no light on Hwy 6, in the Town of Espanola.    

The cyclist was investigated and found to have outstanding warrants from the Espanola area for drug possession and extortion.  

The investigation also revealed that the person was in possession of suspected controlled substances with an estimated value of approximately $900.

Seanna Piche, a 34-year-old resident of Espanola was arrested and charged with:  

  • Possession of a Schedule l Substance- Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), 
  • Possession of a Schedule l Substance - Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA,  
  • Extortion, contrary to section 346(1.1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC). 
  • Possession of a Schedule l Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA; and 
  • Possession of a Schedule l Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA.  

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 20, 2020, in Espanola.
