Collision leads to seizure of drugs, weapons

Two faces numerous charges as a result

ESPANOLA - On March 12, 2021, officers from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 in Lorne Township.

As a result of the investigation, officers located suspected methamphetamine, hydromorphone and cocaine in the vehicle. Additionally, officers seized the following prohibited weapons:
    •    Switch blade knives
    •    Flash-light conducted energy weapon
    •    Brass knuckles
    •    Extendable baton
    •    Pepper Spray

As a result of the investigation, Tracy Pyette, 29 years of age from Espanola, was charged with:
    •    Unauthorized possession of weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the Criminal Code (CC),
    •    Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order, contrary to section 117.01(1) of the CC,
    •    Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC,
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
    •    Fail to remain, contrary to section 200(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act.

Trever Gill, 49 years of age from Sudbury, was charged with:
    •    Unauthorized possession of a weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the CC (five counts),
    •    Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88 of the CC (six counts),
    •    Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order, contrary to section 117.01(1) of the CC (six counts),
    •    Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, contrary to section 91(1) of the CC,
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA,
    •    Possess unmarked cigarettes, contrary to section 29(2) of the Tobacco Tax Act.

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario court of justice in Espanola on April 12, 2021.
