Charges laid in Wiikwemkoong case that prompted safety alert

WIKWEMIKONG TRIBAL POLICE SERVICE

WIIKWEMKOONG FIRST NATION – Charges have been laid in connection to the Alert Ready Emergency broadcast and search for an armed and dangerous person on Sept. 27, 2022.

As a result of the investigation, a person from the Wikwemikong First Nation has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose s. 88 Criminal Code (CC)
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon s. 91(2) CC
  • Assault – spousal s. 266 CCC

The investigation is continuing.

There were no injuries as a result of this investigation and there is no longer a threat to public safety.

The accused was released by way of undertaking and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Wikwemikong, Ont. at a later date. The identity of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
