Charges laid in Espanola armed robbery

Two people, one from Espanola and one from Toronto, have been charged in relation to the March 19 incident

ESPANOLA -  On March 19, 2021 shortly after 4 p.m., members from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the OPP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), two members from the Northeast Canine Unit, OPP’s Scenes of Crime with the assistance from a member from the Anishinabek Police Service responded to a robbery at an apartment complex on Park Street in the Town of Espanola.

As a result of the investigation, two people were arrested and charged.

Christopher Neville, 29 years of age from Espanola, was charged with:
    •    Robbery using firearm (three counts), contrary to section 344(1)(a.1) of the Criminal Code (CC);
    •    Break, enter dwelling house, commit indictable offence (four counts), contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the CC;
    •    Possession of a weapon dangerous (four counts), contrary to section 88 0f the CC;
    •    Pointing a firearm (six counts), contrary to section 87 of the CC;
    •    Utter threats - cause death or bodily harm (three counts), contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) or the CC;
    •    Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to probation order (two counts), contrary to section 117.01(1) of the CC; and with
    •    Failure to comply with undertaking (two counts), contrary to section 145(4)(a) of the CC.

Damar Abrahams, 19 years of age from Brampton, was charged with:
    •    Robbery using firearm (two counts), contrary to section 344(1)(a.1) of the CC;
    •    Break, enter dwelling house, commit indictable offence (two counts), contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the CC;
    •    Possession of a weapon dangerous (two counts), contrary to section 88 0f the CC;
    •    Pointing a firearm (four counts), contrary to section 87 of the CC; and with
    •    Utter threats - cause death or bodily harm (two counts), contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) or the CC.

The accused persons appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Espanola on March 23, 2021 and were remanded into custody.
