Charges laid after suspicious person complaint at local store

Police say the accused, who is known to them, was going in and out of a local store multiple times, making the employees uneasy

On April 23, shortly after 6:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a suspicious person complaint at a local variety store on Paris Drive in Elliot Lake.

The suspicious person had been going in and out of the store multiple times and was making the employees uneasy. A short time later, police arrived on the scene, and a person known to them ran out of the rear of the store. One officer that was outside the store saw the person exit the store and arrested them.

As a result, Cody Everton, 28, from Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • Trespassing by night
  • Attempting to commit an offence 
  • Failing to comply with probation order (two counts)

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on April 24 and was remanded into custody.
