Brampton man charged with abducting 9-year-old in Thessalon

A 35-year-old Brampton man has been charged with abducting a 9-year-old boy in Thessalon.

On Tuesday, the Ontario Provincial Police received a report of a suspicious person who approached a 9-year-old boy fishing at a river.

The man was driving a yellow Camaro with a black racing stripe.

Police say the man offered the boy a toy and gave him ice cream. The boy was located a short time later with the man.

Yesterday, the OPP issued a news release asking for the public's help in locating the suspect.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Sault Ste. Marie OPP arrested 35-year-old Manoj Govindbalunikam of Brampton. He is charged with abduction of person under 14 (take or entice).

He is scheduled to appear in court today. 

None of the allegations against Govindbalunikam have been tested in court and he is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
