The body of a missing Holtyre man, Lawrence Miller, 54, was located by OPP in Black River-Matheson Township. Miller was last seen Nov. 13, 2021.

The body of a missing Holtyre man has been found seven months after he went missing.

The South Porcupine OPP said in a news release today that the body of Lawrence Miller, who had been missing in Black River-Matheson Township since Nov. 13, 2021, was located deceased.

The Holtyre man was last seen alive at around 6 p.m. that day on Guibord Avenue in Black River-Matheson.

“An extensive search was conducted at that time, involving local officers, the OPP Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit, as well as OPP Aviation Services,” the OPP said, adding that Miller’s photo and description were also posted to the provincial police service’s social media accounts.

After the snow had melted, a renewed search for the missing man began again in May in the same area. Again, OPP resources and a canine unit from the Ministry of Natural Resources were used in the search.

This time, searchers had more luck and human remains were located in the area on June 8. Further investigation confirmed the remains were those of the 54-year-old.

The investigation is continuing under the direction of the OPP's Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, OPP said.

Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.
