Blind River traffic stop leads to numerous charges

Police say the accused was unlicensed and breaching conditions

Driver breaching conditions attempts to evade police.

On the evening of Feb. 24, 2023, members of the from the East Algoma detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties in the Town of Blind River.

At approximately 9 p.m., police observed a southbound pickup truck on West Street approach a stop sign at Causley Street. The driver then put the pickup truck in reverse to [allegedly] evade police and as a result, a traffic stop was initiated on West Street. The driver was unlicensed and was breaching conditions.

As a result, Jason Guy, 38 years of age, was arrested and charged with:
    •    Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court (two counts)
    •    Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000
    •    Drive motor vehicle - not equipped with ignition interlock device
    •    Drive motor vehicle - no licence
    •    Use plates not authorized for vehicle
    •    Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates
    •    Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
    •    Operate motor vehicle without insurance

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice video bail on Feb. 25, 2023. The vehicle was impounded for seven days for not having an ignition interlock system.
