On Dec. 19, shortly after 2 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a vehicle that was stolen the day prior from a residence on Michigan Avenue in Blind River.
Investigation determined a man assaulted the owner of a vehicle three weeks prior and on Dec. 19, and the same person threatened to harm the complainant.
During the past four years, the man has also damaged the complainant's residence, police said in a news release.
On Dec. 19, shortly after 6 p.m., police attended the residence and arrested a suspect.
Michael Haggar, 32, of Blind River is charged with:
- Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC)
- Utter Threats-Cause Death or Bodily Harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC
- Theft of Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 333.1 of the CC
- Mischief-Destroys or Damages Property, contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the CC
- Resist Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC
- Assault Peace Officer, contrary to section 270(1)(a) of the CC
The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on Dec. 20 and was remanded into custody.
