ATV driver charged with impaired north of Thessalon

Charges come after police responded to a crash on September 16

An ATV operator is facing a pair of charges after a crash near Thessalon over the weekend.

On Sept. 16, shortly after 4 p.m.. officers with the East Algoma detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, as well as Algoma Paramedic Services, responded to a single-vehicle crash on Shaw Road, north of Thessalon.

The driver of the ATV was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say that while speaking with the driver at the hospital, officers believed alcohol had been consumed.

Codi Gareau, 26, from Bruce Mines, was charged with:

  • operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Gareau is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
