An ATV operator has been charged with impaired driving in Gore Bay.

Manitoulin OPP say an officer on patrol spotted a green ATV with two passengers on Agnes Street at around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

“Police conducted a traffic stop,” OPP said in a news release. “It was determined the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages.”

“The driver was arrested for impaired driving and returned to the Gore Bay OPP detachment for further tests.”

David Hache, 28, of Gore Bay was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

In addition, the driver’s licence was suspended for 90-days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

OPP say this was one of five people arrested for impaired driving Friday and Saturday by the Manitoulin Detachment.

Manitoulin OPP have laid 43 impaired driving charges so far this year.

“Drivers are reminded that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan not to drive,” said OPP.

“Instead, arrange for a designated driver or take a taxi.”
