Assault charges laid after disturbance at Blind River apartment complex

Police say an individual was pushed by the accused and a friend stepped in to assist and was punched in the jaw

BLIND RIVER - On Aug. 2, 2021, shortly after 11:00 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to disturbance at an apartment complex on West Street in the Town of Blind River.

Investigation determined a fight had taken place between several parties. An individual was pushed by the accused and a friend stepped in to assist and was punched in the jaw several times and left the scene.

Police located the accused on Aug. 4, 2021, and as a result of the investigation, Christopher Mercer, 42 years of age, from Blind River was charged with: assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code.

The accused appeared before the before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on Aug. 5, 2021 and was remanded into custody.
