Arrest made in September airport break-in investigation

On Oct. 14, 2022, the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a person in relation to a break, enter and theft at an airport south of Elliot Lake.

On Sept. 11, 2022, police were called to the airport regarding a person who had entered numerous buildings overnight and stole items. The person was caught on video surveillance, who police recognized and identified.

Police were initially unable to locate the individual but was later arrested after a stolen vehicle occurrence in the Markstay-Warren area.

Darrell Hussman, 39 years old of Kenora, was charged with:
    •    Theft under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    Break, enter a place - with Intent to commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the CC
    •    Break, enter a place - commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the CC  
    •    Mischief under $5,000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC

The accused was scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie on Oct. 17, 2022.
