On March 23, 2023 shortly after 11:30 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Hutchison Avenue in Elliot Lake and arrested a person in relation to a previous fraud and theft investigation.

On Nov. 24, 2022, police responded to a theft of cash complaint from the North Shore township municipal office. Investigation determined there was an issue with municipality cash not being deposited. Over $6,500 in cash was missing between September 2022 and November 2022. In addition, there was a false payment and forged receipt for the same amount in an employee's property tax account.

As a result, Jennifer Mussche, 39 years of age from Spragge (within the Township of the North Shore), was charged with:
    •    Criminal breach of trust
    •    Make forged document
    •    Mischief to computer data - destroys or alters
    •    Theft under $5,000 (four counts)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on May 1, 2023.
