ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE
***************************
On April 7, 2023, shortly after 3 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft of a cell phone from a local coffee shop on Causley Street in Blind River.

The complainants advised police they were tracking their phone using an APP, and the phone was present in the West Street area. While dealing with this call, police received a complaint of an unwanted person at a residence on Nadon Street where a person was banging on the residence door and trying the door handle, then took off prior to police arrival.

Police received additional information the phone was tracked to be at a local restaurant on the west end of Causley Street. Once at the restaurant, police were met by an employee who advised there was a suspicious person in the restaurant. Police attempted to communicate with the individual, who became aggressive and assaultive towards the police. During the altercation, police deployed a conductive energy weapon (CEW) to gain control and subsequently arrest the individual.

The accused was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released back into police custody.

On April 8, while the accused was before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail, the accused spit and punched the video screen and swore at the presiding justice of the peace. While being dismissed from video bail, the accused depressed the emergency alarm at the Blind River detachment and threw a cup of water and struck the investigation officer.

As a result, Aaron Scott, 35, from Etobicoke was charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Resist peace officer
  • Assault a peace officer (two counts)
  • Fail to comply with a probation order
  • Mischief onder $5,000
  • Mischief-interfere with lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property-under $5,000
  • Causing a disturbance

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail on April 8 and was remanded into custody.
