Area teens charged after intimate images shared on social media

Complainant reported sharing images with a close friend; those images were then shared with numerous others without complainant's consent, police say

The Ontario Provincial Police say they have now charged three teens in relation to possessing and sending intimate images through a social media platform, including one teenager from Sault Ste. Marie and another from Elliot Lake.

The investigation started in February, the East Algoma OPP detachment said in a news release.

A complainant reported sharing intimate images with a close friend. Those images were then shared with numerous other people without the consent of the complainant.

Three teenagers were subsequently arrested and charged, police said.

A 15-year-old from Elliot Lake and a 15-year-old from the Sault are charged with:

  • Makes, prints, publishes or possession for the purpose of publication any child pornography
  • Imports, distributes, sells or possession for the purpose of distribution or sale any child pornography
  • Possession of child pornography
  • Distribute intimate image without consent

A 16-year-old from Oshawa was charged with:

  • Make intimate image available without consent
  • Imports, distributes, sells or possession for the purpose of distribution or sale any child pornography
  • Possession of child pornography
  • Assault (two counts)

All three are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on June 5.
