Area resident charged after $115K in drugs seized near Parry Sound

ARCHIPELAGO - On June 1, 2021 at approximately 2:15 p.m., members from the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), OPP Technical Collision Investigation Unit (TCIU), OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team (TIME), Parry Sound Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Britt Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle collision involving an automobile and a commercial vehicle on Highway 69 in Archipelago Township.

The driver and passenger of the automobile were transported by ambulance to a local hospital and treated for non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the commercial motor vehicle was not injured.

During the investigation police seized approximately $115,000 of drugs.

As a result of further investigation the driver, Sean Hawco, 43 years of age of Etobicoke, Ont., was arrested and charged with:
    •    Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code, contrary to Section 320.18(1)(a) Criminal Code (CC) (seven counts)
    •    Dangerous operation, contrary to Section 320.13(1) CC
    •    Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to Section 733.1(1) CC
    •    Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine, contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA)
    •    Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drugs, contrary to Section 5(2) CDSA
    •    Drive while under suspension, contrary to Section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

The passenger, Cody Dunn, 25 years of age of Sables-Spanish River Township, Ont., was also arrested and charged with:
    •    Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine, contrary to Section 5(2) CDSA
    •    Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drugs, contrary to Section 5(2) CDSA

Both accused remain in custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on June 4, 2021.
