Area OPP laid 128 charges in July, including one for littering

BLIND RIVER - From July 1, 2023, to July 31, 2023, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed most motorists wearing their seatbelts and driving safely, however there were a minority of drivers who continue to engage in unsafe driving behaviour.

During the month of July, East Algoma Detachment members from Blind River, Thessalon and Elliot Lake took three impaired drivers of our roadways, responded to 31 non-life-threatening motor vehicle collisions, conducted 12 marine patrols, effected 314 vehicle traffic stops and laid 196 charges, along with responding to 114 traffic complaints and impounded six vehicles.

    •    Speeding (117)
    •    Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit (8)
    •    Drive while under suspension (8)
    •    Drive motor vehicle no licence (3)
    •    Driver-fail to surrender licence (3)
    •    Stunt driving (3)
    •    Seatbelt (2)
    •    Careless Driving (2)
    •    Use plates not authorized for vehicle (2)
    •    Windshield obstructed (2)
    •    Commercial motor vehicle (2)
    •    Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero
    •    Drive motor vehicle - improper licence
    •    Unsafe move-lane or shoulder
    •    Drive motor vehicle, no validation on plate
    •    Pass-roadway not clear-approaching traffic
    •    Disobey sign
    •    Drive without proper rear light-motor vehicle

Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act charges:
    •    Fail to have insurance card (10)
    •    Operate motor vehicle without insurance (3)
    •    Permit motor vehicle to be operated without insurance

Liquor Licence and Control Act charges:
    •    Being intoxicated in common area of residence
    •    Having liquor in open container in unauthorized place

Trespass to Property Act charges:
    •    Enter premises when entry prohibited
    •    Fail to leave premises when directed

Cannabis Control Act charges:
    •    Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

Small Vessel Regulations charges:
    •    Permitting person to operate non-human-powered pleasure craft without personal floatation device or lifejacket of appropriate size for each person
