40-year-old from Spanish charged with theft

Arrest made after police recognize individual wanted on outstanding warrant

On June 13, 2020 at approximately 7:15 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were patrolling near a retail store on Hillside Drive South in Elliot Lake.

Police recognized two people outside the store and knew they were contravening previous bail conditions. Furthermore, one of the persons was wanted on outstanding charges from a theft occurrence reported to police on May 25, 2020. The complainant in that case reported his boat, motor, and trailer was stolen from a residence on Ottawa Avenue. After police investigation, suspects were identified and persons charged.

Jimi Carrine, 40 years of age of Spanish, Ont. was charged with:
    •    Fail to comply with release order - other than to attend court (three counts), contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
    •    Theft over $5,000 (two counts), contrary to section 334(a) of the CC,
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (two counts), contrary to section 355(a) of the CC, and
    •    Trafficking in property obtained by crime, contrary to section 355.2 of the CC.

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on June 14, 2020.
